Description

Delightful apple pie fries that offer an innovative twist on a classic dessert, perfect for dipping in salted caramel sauce.


Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups canned Apple Pie Filling (or 1 3/4 cups for US crust)
  • 3 tbsp sugar (white, brown, or raw)
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 sheets frozen shortcrust pastry (10″ square) or 14 oz refrigerated pie crust
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp sugar granules (optional)
  • Oil spray
  • 1 cup caster sugar (for salted caramel sauce)
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. In a food processor, blend the apple pie filling, ground cinnamon, and sugar until smooth.
  2. Spread the warm apple filling evenly across one pastry sheet, leaving a small border around the edges.
  3. Place the second pastry sheet on top, brush with an egg wash, sprinkle with sugar, and freeze for about an hour.
  4. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and spray a baking sheet with oil.
  5. After chilling, slice the pastry into fry-shaped strips and arrange on the baking tray.
  6. Bake for 15 to 25 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Cool slightly and transfer to a wire rack.
  8. For the salted caramel, heat caster sugar and water until golden, then whisk in cream, salt, and butter. Drizzle over fries before serving.
