- 1 1⁄2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup grated Gruyere cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh thyme (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a saucepan, combine the heavy cream, whole milk, and minced garlic. Heat gently over medium heat until warm.
- In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, seasoning with salt, pepper, and half of the Parmesan cheese.
- Pour half of the cream mixture over the first layer of potatoes.
- Repeat with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and top with Gruyere cheese.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Let it cool slightly before serving.
Notes
You can make this gratin ahead of time and refrigerate it. Consider adding sautéed mushrooms or spinach for healthier variations.
