Description
Delight in the nostalgic sweetness of candy apples, a perfect combination of tangy Granny Smith apples and glossy, sugary candy coating.
Ingredients
Scale
- Cooking spray
- 6 medium Granny Smith apples
- 2 cups (400 g) granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 16 drops red food coloring
- 6 long wooden sticks or metal skewers
- A candy thermometer
Instructions
- Grease a baking sheet with cooking spray; optionally line with parchment paper.
- Insert a wooden stick into the top of each apple, pushing halfway through.
- In a medium heavy pot over medium-high heat, combine sugar, corn syrup, food coloring, and 3/4 cup of water. Bring to a boil.
- Boil until thermometer registers between 300°F and 310°F, about 15 to 20 minutes. Remove from heat.
- Allow bubbles to subside for 30 seconds, then dip each apple in the candy mixture. Let excess drip off and transfer to the baking sheet.
- Allow apples to cool completely before serving.
Notes
For lighter options, consider using coconut sugar or honey, and avoid food coloring for a more natural appearance.
