Description

Delight in the nostalgic sweetness of candy apples, a perfect combination of tangy Granny Smith apples and glossy, sugary candy coating.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Cooking spray
  • 6 medium Granny Smith apples
  • 2 cups (400 g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 16 drops red food coloring
  • 6 long wooden sticks or metal skewers
  • A candy thermometer

Instructions

  1. Grease a baking sheet with cooking spray; optionally line with parchment paper.
  2. Insert a wooden stick into the top of each apple, pushing halfway through.
  3. In a medium heavy pot over medium-high heat, combine sugar, corn syrup, food coloring, and 3/4 cup of water. Bring to a boil.
  4. Boil until thermometer registers between 300°F and 310°F, about 15 to 20 minutes. Remove from heat.
  5. Allow bubbles to subside for 30 seconds, then dip each apple in the candy mixture. Let excess drip off and transfer to the baking sheet.
  6. Allow apples to cool completely before serving.

Notes

For lighter options, consider using coconut sugar or honey, and avoid food coloring for a more natural appearance.
