- 5 cups sugar, divided
- 2 2/3 cups applesauce, divided
- 2 packages (3 ounces each) strawberry jello
- 2 packages (3 ounces each) lime jello
- 4 envelopes unflavored gelatin, divided
Instructions
- In a large saucepan, stir together 2 cups of sugar, 1 â…“ cups applesauce, two packages of strawberry jello, and two envelopes of unflavored gelatin. Allow to stand for one minute.
- Over medium heat, bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly. Once boiling, continue for one minute.
- Pour the mixture into a greased 11×7 or 9×13 pan.
- Repeat the steps with another 2 cups of sugar, 1 â…“ cups applesauce, te two envelopes of unflavored gelatin, and lime jello.
- Place in the fridge for three hours to firm up.
- Cut the gumdrops into squares and transfer them onto wax or parchment paper using a metal spatula.
- Use mini Christmas cookie cutters to shape the gumdrops and arrange them on a lined tray.
- Allow the candies to dry at room temperature for at least 8 hours or overnight.
- Coat each gumdrop in the remaining 1 cup of sugar before serving.
Notes
Sprinkle powdered sugar over the wax paper to prevent gumdrops from sticking. Experiment with different jello flavors for variety.
