Description

A rich and indulgent bread, combining the flavors of chocolate and sourdough for a delightful treat.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 500 g All Purpose Flour or Bread Flour
  • 375 g Water
  • 125 g Sourdough Starter Active and Bubbly
  • 30 g Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 50 g Sugar
  • 10 g Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Butter, Softened
  • 125 g Chocolate Chips

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt.
  2. Add the sourdough starter and warm water, mixing until the dough starts to come together.
  3. Knead in the butter until your dough is smooth and silky (5 to 7 minutes).
  4. Gently fold in the chocolate chips.
  5. Transfer the dough to an oiled bowl and let it rise for 6 to 8 hours until doubled in size.
  6. Shape the dough into a round loaf, placing it in a floured proofing basket. Let it rise for 1 to 2 hours or refrigerate overnight.
  7. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C), placing a Dutch oven inside to heat.
  8. Carefully transfer your dough to the hot Dutch oven, score the top, cover, and bake for 20 minutes.
  9. Remove the lid and bake for another 20-25 minutes until the crust is set.
  10. Allow the loaf to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

Can serve with butter or as a decadent dessert. Store leftovers in an airtight container.
