- 500 g All Purpose Flour or Bread Flour
- 375 g Water
- 125 g Sourdough Starter Active and Bubbly
- 30 g Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
- 50 g Sugar
- 10 g Salt
- 2 tablespoons Butter, Softened
- 125 g Chocolate Chips
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt.
- Add the sourdough starter and warm water, mixing until the dough starts to come together.
- Knead in the butter until your dough is smooth and silky (5 to 7 minutes).
- Gently fold in the chocolate chips.
- Transfer the dough to an oiled bowl and let it rise for 6 to 8 hours until doubled in size.
- Shape the dough into a round loaf, placing it in a floured proofing basket. Let it rise for 1 to 2 hours or refrigerate overnight.
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C), placing a Dutch oven inside to heat.
- Carefully transfer your dough to the hot Dutch oven, score the top, cover, and bake for 20 minutes.
- Remove the lid and bake for another 20-25 minutes until the crust is set.
- Allow the loaf to cool completely before slicing.
Notes
Can serve with butter or as a decadent dessert. Store leftovers in an airtight container.
