A quick and easy recipe for cheesy bread that’s perfect for cozy dinners or as a snack.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups all-purpose or bread flour
- 2 teaspoons instant yeast
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 1/2 cups lukewarm water
- 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- Optional extra cheese for topping
- Optional 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder or dried herbs
- Optional pinch of black pepper or chili flakes
- Optional blend of cheeses
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, yeast, and salt.
- Pour in the lukewarm water, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.
- Gently fold in the shredded cheddar cheese and any additional ingredients.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel, then let it rise at room temperature for 2-3 hours or refrigerate overnight.
- When ready to bake, turn the dough onto a floured surface, shaping it gently into a round loaf.
- Place the loaf on parchment paper, then let it rest while you preheat your Dutch oven to 450°F for 30 minutes.
- Carefully transfer the dough, along with the parchment, into the hot Dutch oven. Score the top if desired.
- Cover and bake for 30 minutes, then remove the lid and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the loaf is golden brown.
- For an extra cheesy topping, sprinkle with additional cheddar during the last 5 minutes.
- Once baked, let the bread cool on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
