A quick and easy recipe for cheesy bread that’s perfect for cozy dinners or as a snack.


Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose or bread flour
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 1/2 cups lukewarm water
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • Optional extra cheese for topping
  • Optional 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder or dried herbs
  • Optional pinch of black pepper or chili flakes
  • Optional blend of cheeses

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, yeast, and salt.
  2. Pour in the lukewarm water, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Gently fold in the shredded cheddar cheese and any additional ingredients.
  4. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel, then let it rise at room temperature for 2-3 hours or refrigerate overnight.
  5. When ready to bake, turn the dough onto a floured surface, shaping it gently into a round loaf.
  6. Place the loaf on parchment paper, then let it rest while you preheat your Dutch oven to 450°F for 30 minutes.
  7. Carefully transfer the dough, along with the parchment, into the hot Dutch oven. Score the top if desired.
  8. Cover and bake for 30 minutes, then remove the lid and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the loaf is golden brown.
  9. For an extra cheesy topping, sprinkle with additional cheddar during the last 5 minutes.
  10. Once baked, let the bread cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

For a lighter version, consider using whole wheat flour or low-fat cheese.
