Description
A simple and quick recipe for warm, comforting homemade bread that brings nostalgia and joy to every bite.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for kneading)
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted butter
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Allow it to sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- Add salt and 2 cups of flour to the yeast mixture, stirring gently until combined. Gradually mix in the remaining flour until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes by hand, or 5-7 minutes with a stand mixer until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
- Punch down the dough, divide it into two portions, shape them into loaves, and place them in greased pans.
- Cover the loaves with a kitchen towel and let them rise for another 30-40 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake the loaves for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove the loaves from the oven and cool on a wire rack for at least 15 minutes before slicing.
