- 2 tsp anise seed (or ½ tsp anise extract)
- 1¼ tsp active dry yeast

- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 tbsp orange zest
- ¼ cup white sugar
- ¼ cup orange juice
- 2 tsp orange zest
- 2 tbsp white sugar (for sprinkling)
Instructions
- Heat the milk and butter in a small pan over medium heat until melted.
- In a large bowl, combine 1 cup of flour, sugar, anise seeds, yeast, and salt. Stir in the warm milk mixture along with beaten eggs and orange zest.
- Gradually add in the remaining flour, kneading the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 to 2 hours.
- After the first rise, gently punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf.
- Allow it to rise again for another hour.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F and bake for 35 to 45 minutes until golden brown.
- For the glaze, boil together the orange juice, orange zest, and white sugar for 2 minutes before brushing it over the warm bread.
Notes
For a healthier option, use low-sugar orange juice, experiment with whole wheat flour, or substitute dairy with almond or coconut milk.
