Description
Delightful Halloween Candy Apples with a crunchy candy shell over tart Granny Smith apples, perfect for festive gatherings.

- 8 large Granny Smith apples
- 3 cups caster sugar (600g / 1 ⅓ pounds)
- ⅓ cup water (80ml)
- ¼ cup liquid glucose or light corn syrup (60ml)
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- Food coloring of choice (red, black, or orange)
- Optional decorations (sprinkles, candy eyes, edible glitter, crushed cookies)
Instructions
- Line a large baking tray with baking paper and set it aside.
- Wash and dry the apples thoroughly; remove stems and insert sticks or skewers into the top of each apple.
- Add sugar, water, glucose, and vinegar to a heavy-based saucepan. Heat gently, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
- Increase heat and attach a candy thermometer. Boil the mixture until it reaches 150°C / 302°F (the hard crack stage).
- Remove from heat, stir in food coloring, and allow the bubbles to settle.
- Dip apples carefully into the syrup, turning to coat evenly.
- Quickly dip in sprinkles or decorations before the coating sets.
- Place apples upright on the prepared tray and let them set for about 20 minutes.
- Wrap in cellophane for gifting or enjoy immediately!
Notes
Store in a cool, dry place. They are best enjoyed fresh and can be wrapped in cellophane for gifting.
