Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (204°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
- Grate the frozen butter into the flour mixture, integrating until it resembles pea-sized crumbs.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together heavy cream, egg, and vanilla extract, then pour over the dry ingredients.
- Gently fold the mixture until just combined; add optional extras if desired.
- Shape the dough into an 8-inch disc, 1-inch thick, and cut into 8 wedges.
- Brush tops lightly with reserved cream and sprinkle with coarse sugar if desired.
- Chill the dough for at least 15 minutes before baking.
- Arrange scones on baking sheets and bake for 18-22 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool on a wire rack before serving warm.
Notes
