Description

Deliciously warm and chewy pretzels filled with gooey mozzarella cheese, perfect for snacks and gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 8 ounces mozzarella cheese, cut into sticks
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1/3 cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg
  • Coarse salt for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In another bowl, blend the all-purpose flour and salt. Gradually add the yeast mixture and knead until smooth and elastic.
  3. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  4. Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  5. Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Flatten each piece and place a mozzarella stick in the center, sealing the cheese inside.
  6. Roll each filled piece into a long rope and twist into a pretzel shape.
  7. Boil 10 cups of water with baking soda. Add each pretzel for about 30 seconds before draining.
  8. Beat the egg and brush it over each pretzel. Sprinkle with coarse salt.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Ensure the water is warm but not hot to activate the yeast. Allow the dough to rise sufficiently for best texture.
