Description

Delicious salted caramel apple bars featuring a buttery crust, tender apples, and a rich caramel drizzle, topped with a hint of sea salt.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for apple mixture)
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt flakes

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×9-inch baking dish with grease and parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, and 1/4 tsp sea salt. Add melted butter and mix until crumbly. Press the mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Bake for 15 minutes.
  3. Toss diced apples with 1 tbsp lemon juice, 1 tsp ground cinnamon, and 1/4 cup all-purpose flour in a separate bowl.
  4. For the crumble topping, mix 1/2 cup packed brown sugar, 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, and cold butter cubes until crumbly.
  5. Spread the apple mixture over the baked crust, drizzle caramel sauce on top, and sprinkle with crumble topping.
  6. Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden brown and bubbly. Sprinkle sea salt flakes while warm and let cool before slicing.
  7. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

For added depth of flavor, mix tart and sweet apples. Allow bars to cool completely for best slicing.
