Warm, soft pretzel bites perfect for sharing with friends and family or enjoying during a cozy movie night.


Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (around 110°F)
  • 1 packet active dry or instant yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg (beaten with 1 tablespoon water)
  • Coarse sea salt
  • Butter for brushing (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  2. Stir in salt and sugar until dissolved.
  3. Gradually add the flour and mix until a dough begins to form.
  4. Knead for 4-5 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat your oven to 450°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  7. In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil.
  8. Punch the risen dough down and divide it into 6 pieces. Roll each piece into ropes and cut them into 1-inch bites.
  9. Carefully drop the pretzel bites into the boiling baking soda water in batches for 30 seconds.
  10. Remove the bites and place them on the baking sheet. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  11. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  12. Optionally brush with melted butter after baking.

Notes

For healthier options, use whole wheat flour and low-sugar variations. Be mindful of baking times to avoid overbaking.
