Description

Indulge in rich, fudgy squares made with brown butter and cocoa, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Start by melting the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir continuously until it foams and turns golden brown. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the granulated and brown sugars. Pour in the warm brown butter and mix until well dissolved.
  3. Stir in the eggs and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. In another bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, and a pinch of salt. Gradually fold this mixture into the wet ingredients.
  5. Pour the thick batter into a greased 9×9 inch baking dish and spread evenly. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes. A toothpick inserted should come out with moist crumbs.
  6. Allow to cool slightly before slicing into squares.

Notes

Store at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for up to a month. For a warm treat, microwave for 10-15 seconds.
