Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup crushed candy canes plus extra for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8 inch baking dish with parchment paper.
  2. In a saucepan over low heat, melt the butter gently and stir in the granulated and brown sugars until well combined.
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat and let it cool slightly; whisk in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix together the cocoa powder and flour, then gradually stir this into the wet ingredients.
  5. Fold in half of the crushed candy canes, reserving the rest for the topping.
  6. Pour the brownie batter into your prepared dish and sprinkle the remaining candy canes on top.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out mostly clean.
  8. Let the brownies cool completely before slicing into squares.
