- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Optional extra herbs or cheese for topping
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, basil, oregano, and thyme.
- In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add olive oil and yeast mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until a cohesive dough forms.
- Knead this mixture on a lightly floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Gently knead in mozzarella and Parmesan, ensuring even distribution.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased loaf pan or on a baking sheet. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden and hollow-sounding when tapped.
- Allow the bread to cool slightly before slicing. Optionally, brush with butter and sprinkle with extra Parmesan.
Notes
For added flavor, consider mixing in minced garlic or using fresh herbs instead of dried.
